Before treating your pool water, it's important to know what chemicals you need, what to do first and the readings to look out for to maintain the correct chemical balance. Keeping the chemical levels balanced will keep the water cleaner for longer and safer for users.

What chemicals do I need for my Bestway pool?

What chemical levels should I look for?

  • Total Alkalinity - 80‑120 ppm
  • pH levels - 7.2‑7.6
  • Free Chlorine - 1-3 ppm

What should I do before using my pool?

When a pool has been filled with fresh water, it needs a shock dose. A shock dose is giving your pool water a much stronger dose of chlorine that usual. This is done with granules, not tablets. See our pool chemical guide for more tips on shock dosing your pool water.

What should I do after this?

Once your pool water has had a shock dose, wait at least 24H for the chlorine to work. The next day, you can look at Total Alkalinity levels and make sure they are in range. Any chemicals you might need are available from our website
