How to prepare the ground for a Bestway pool

Preparing the ground for a Bestway above-ground pool is essential to ensure proper stability and long life.

This blog details where and how to prepare the ground for a Bestway pool, and this applies to all pools; fast set, steel pro, steel pro max etc.

Quick tips when choosing a spot for your pool:

  1. Choose a space big enough for your pool and access around
  2. Close proximity to both a water source and somewhere to drain water
  3. Within reach of out door power for filter pumps - these should not be used with an extension.
  4. Make sure that the surface is flat and even, without slopes or other types of obstacles.
  5. It is better to opt for a space away from vegetation to prevent leaves, twigs and pollen from falling into the water.

Ideal flooring for a Besway above-ground pool

Lawn Most UK gardens' suitable space for a pool is a lawn. Before setting up the pool it is important to remove any stones or sticks from the ground.

  • The pool base (as it will be sitting in the same spot for a long time) will cause discolouration of the grass and maybe longer-term damage.
  • You may need to consider small sections of wood under each of the pool legs. On some softer ground, the weight of the pool will cause the legs to sink in.
  • Constant splashing and water spills could cause wet boggy mud
  • Grass is likely to get walked into the pool. Maybe use a foot bath or something similar to wash feet on the way in.

Cement or concrete base This is the ideal flooring for an above-ground pool because it offers a perfectly flat, solid and resistant surface. If you're planning on having a pool area for many yeas, this is something to consider installing. However, if you are not familiar with this type of work, it is always better to rely on professionals in the sector to obtain a good final result.

  • Depending on the finish, this type of surface may become slippery when wet
  • Depending on the material, the surface may become hot

How to level the ground for your Bestway pool

Level the ground for a Bestway swimming pool

If you're serious about having a designated pool area or your space is not level, you should level the ground ready for your above ground pool.

  1. Identify high points: Either use long planks and a spirit level or two stakes, either side of your pool area, and string running from one to the other. Get the string as close to the most level part of the ground as you can and use a spirit level to get it straight
  2. Dig out the high points: Use a spade to dig out the lumps and bumps. Either put the soil elsewhere or fill any dips.
  3. Rake, level & tamper the ground: Use a rake to carefully level your ground, then wet it fully with a hose until completely saturated. After this youo'll need to tamper the ground - meaning flattening / compacting it down.
  4. (optional) top with sand: You can top with very fine sand dug in around two inches deep, then tampered again.

what to put a Bestway pool on?

What to put under a Bestway pool

Ideally, you should put something between the ground and the base of your pool. Your best choices here are foam mats or ground cloths. These are great to protect the base of the liner of your Bestway pool.

Modular mats - Practical to position, modular mats are an excellent choice because they guarantee softness and a good thickness. Versatile and modular, they are a choice that adapts to pools of any size - just make sure you get enough packs to cover to footing of your Bestway pool.

Pool ground cloth - This is an economical option that is especially suited for use on concrete. The sheets are usually made of PVC and offer basic protection for the liner; however, you may need to change them more frequently as they may be a little less durable than mats.
