Proper and consistent pool water maintenance
Be thorough and consistent with pool water maintenance, and this will help you reduce the amount of times you need to change the water.
- Try your best to prevent grass and other debris from getting walked into the pool. Use a skimming net to remove dirt from the surface and a vacuum to remove dirt from the bottom.

Well-balanced pool water will last much longer. Test the water and check the chemical balance at least once a week. Test strip readings should be:
Total Alkalinity - 80‑120 ppm
pH levels - 7.2‑7.6 Free
Chlorine - 1-3 ppm - After heavy use, shock dose with a boosting dose of chlorine.

Use a good filtration system
If your pool includes a filter, make sure you use it and regularly clean or replace the filter cartridges. Dirty or worn out filters will not be keeping your water free from dirt and water quality is likely to drop.
